• Each plant can contain up to 250 compounds in its cells. All of these compounds form the totality of the plant. The extraction process is a key factor in preserving all the plant compounds. For the nettle root extracts, we have selected the parts of the plant that are richest in compounds: the roots of stinging nettle (Urtica dioïca L.) to elaborate the food supplement Phytostandard® Ortie Racine capsules.
• How are the nettle extracts for this Phytostandard® selected?
Although nettle is generally perceived as a weed with unpleasant stings, this wild plant can also find its place in our kitchens. After careful cleaning, it can be eaten raw, finely chopped in salads for example, or cooked, in soup or as a substitute for spinach. Originally from Eurasia, it has spread to almost all temperate regions of the world. For our Phytostandards®, the roots are harvested by hand (gloves are of course required), in France. Washing and freezing of the roots is done on site in the Ardèche just after harvesting.
The roots are then crushed and extracted using the Phytostandard® process, which is recognised for its respect for the integrity of the plant's compounds. The nettle extract obtained is alcohol-free. It is then freeze-dried, i.e. cold dehydrated to be put into a plant capsule. The manufacturing process, from the extraction of Phytostandard® to the capsule filling, is carried out in France, which allows for the traceability of the products from their production to their distribution.
